Life is fleeting. Seasons come and go. Storms give way to sunny skies. Relationships dissolve as new ones form. The inevitability of change can yield a sense of being untethered. My work is an attempt to discover a measure of stability in the face of gradients wrought by time.
I am drawn to subjects that evoke the candor of imperfection, the so-called flaws that impart interest to an object or character to a portrait. Aspiring to capture the truth in a place, object or figure brings a realization that beauty and meaning are found in our faults as well as our achievements. Thus, we can gain an acceptance for the future, though it might fall far short of the paragon of our dreams.
